Cultural Competency
Cultural
competency is not just a catch-phrase or the latest trend in training. As our
classrooms become increasingly diverse in its race, ethnicity, socioeconomic
status, sexual orientation, and level of ability, educational institutions
simply must grow to meet the needs of its clientele. Organizations that practice
cultural competence succeed because they are better able to recognize and
nurture the strengths of their staff and the student populations they work with.
Prevention Educators will help you take the beginning steps in growing basic
awareness, knowledge and skills in this area. More advanced programming will
challenge administrators and teachers to evaluate their behaviors and attitudes
and look critically at how these affect educational policies and structures so
that you can work effectively and consistently in a cross-cultural manner.
